Cantaloupes Recalled in Texas Due to Salmonella
One of the most refreshing fruits to eat is cantaloupe. Cantaloupe is one of those fruits that people love or they hate.
The best thing about cantaloupe is cutting it in half, cleaning out the seeds, grabbing a spoon, and just digging in. Cantaloupe is one of the main fruits when you order a fruit cup or fruit tray.
Unfortunately, if you have recently purchased a whole cantaloupe you need to check your label before you cut it or eat it.
Eagle Produce LLC in Scottsdale, AZ is voluntarily recalling 6,456 cases of whole cantaloupe. These particular cases of cantaloupe are potentially contaminated with Salmonella.
What is Salmonella?
Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy people may experience fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea (which may be bloody), and abdominal pain. In rare cases the organism can get into the bloodstream and producing more severe illness such as arterial infections (i.e. infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

These cantaloupes were distributed September 5th-16th in Texas.
Other affected states include, California, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Washington D.C. and sold in various retail supermarkets.
No illnesses have been reported due to consuming these products.
If you have these particular cantaloupes in your home, throw them away and do not eat them.
