The one constant in Canyon sits at the center of the city: the historic courthouse. It’s where nearly every major event takes place. It’s the heart of the community.

Why Canyon’s Historic Courthouse Was Dark at Night

However, if you’ve ever been in Canyon at night and driven around Canyon Square, you’ve probably noticed how dark it gets once you leave the glow of the businesses. There isn’t any lighting at the courthouse itself. It's almost as if it fades into obscurity at night.

Someone noticed just how dark the courthouse was at night this past Christmas season. The city Christmas tree shone brightly, but the courthouse sadly was not.  That contrast sparked something bigger.

What Is the Illuminate Canyon Lighting Project

That moment created Illuminate Canyon. You may be wondering what Illuminate Canyon is. It’s a movement to light up the Historic Randall County Courthouse. This group wants to make the centerpiece of Canyon stand out again.

How New Lighting Could Transform Downtown Canyon

The group wants to bring color-changing landscape lighting to the courthouse. This lighting will "restore the courthouse presence as a beacon in downtown Canyon."

Not only will this new lighting make the courthouse shine, but it will also be customizable for holidays and events while bringing the building’s everyday beauty to life.

Cost of the Canyon Courthouse Lighting Project and Funding Plan

The total cost of the project will be $70,000. The project will be funded by businesses, organizations, and community members, and Illuminate Canyon is currently asking for donations to make it happen.
