Caprock High School Student’s Art to Be Hung in U.S. Capitol
Every year The U.S. Capitol holds the Congressional Art Competition. Students from all over the country submit their artwork in hopes that their piece will be hung in the Capitol building for an entire year.
The 2019 winners list was released this week and there was a familiar name on it. Briana Hernandez, from Caprock High School in Amarillo, was selected to represent District 13 of Texas with her original piece.
The incredible use of shadows and textures really make this piece something wonderful. The only thing better than the picture is what Briana named it. The artwork name is "More Pecan Pie, Please!" Between the name and the mischief captured in the eyes of the young girl's eye, you can sense the carefree, fun-loving personality if of the artist.
This achievement is also a huge honor for the Amarillo Independent School District. This will be the 3rd time in the last 5 years one of the district's students have earned this honor.
