Recently, Heston Kjerstad was accepted to play for the Norfolk Tides and one step closer to the MLB.  Now, another Amarillo native is embarking on the national level with the PBR.

Amarillo's very own Dawson Gleaves will be competing with the Texas Rattlers.

This will be the second season for the PBR Teams.  Bull riding is normally an individual sport but now bull riders are able to compete on teams.

The 2023 season will feature 10 events and 28 regular season games.   Two of the teams competing are from Texas.  The Texas Rattlers are based out of Fort Worth at the Dickies Arena and the Austin Gamblers, are based out of our state's capitol, Austin, Texas at the Moody Center.  The team with the highest aggregate score will be the winner.

Gleaves was added to the Texas Rattlers Reserve Roster during the draft on May 17th.  He won his first event on May 25th and placed 2nd place on June 1st.

The first PBR team event will take place in Cheyenne, Wyoming, July 24-25.  The full schedule for the PBR Teams is below:

  • Sept. 8-10 Oklahoma City, OK Paycom Center - Oklahoma Freedom
  • Sept. 15-17 Ridgedale, MO Thunder Ridge Nature’s Arena - Missouri Thunder
  • Sept 22-24 Greensboro, NC Greensboro Coliseum - Carolina Cowboys
  • Sept 29- Oct. 1 Glendale, AZ Desert Diamond Arena - Arizona Ridge Riders
  • Oct. 6-8 Fort Worth, TX Dickies Arena - Texas Rattlers
  • Oct 20-22 Las Vegas, NV T-Mobile Arena - Championship

Other area athletes are competing as well, Dalton Kasel is on the roster for the Austin Gamblers.  His hometown is Muleshoe, Texas.
