As flat as the eye can see is what this area has been described as, and dirty and brown.  Many people have said that there are no trees in Amarillo.

Why are there no trees in the Texas Panhandle?

According to the Texas A&M Forest Service, Soil in the High Plains is primarily heavy, clay above an impervious caliche layer with some sand found in the eastern panhandle. Soils are alkaline throughout the area which limits the types of trees that can be grown successfully.

Amarillo is flat and has nothing but plains.  However, that all changed once I was able to see Amarillo from above.   By above, I mean 16 floors up in the air.  I recently had the opportunity to be up on the top floor of ANB Plaza 1.  From the top of this floor, you can see from one end of Amarillo to the other from all sides.

The one thing I noticed was that Amarillo is truly green.  It has a bunch of trees.  I mean a lot.  From this view, it's a green layer above the city.   It is actually quite beautiful.

Who would have thought Amarillo would be this green and full of so many trees?  If you ever get a chance to view the city from one of the taller buildings in Amarillo, you should take that chance, it's a gorgeous view.
