Don’t Miss TEXAS this Year in Palo Duro Canyon!
Summer is here and that means all the summer fun is back. One of those fun summer traditions takes place in Palo Duro Canyon.
UPDATE: 6/2/2022 The TEXAS Outdoor Musical has delayed the season opener scheduled for Thursday, June 2nd to June 9th due to positive COVID-19 test results among the cast and crew.
“We are confident that this 56th season of TEXAS will be an exceptional and memorable one,” Andrew Hay, Cultural Foundation of the Texas Panhandle Executive Director, said. “No one is more anxious to bring this to fruition than the talented cast and crew. Although we are temporarily postponing opening night, I am confident that the audience will be treated to an amazing experience once we take the stage.”
I remember seeing the musical for the first time as a child, and it was amazing. The story, the music, and of course a giant scare (don't worry I won't spoil it and tell you when it happens).
It's one of those shows that stays with you and I look forward to seeing it every chance I get. It's one of the places I love to take friends and family when they come to visit Amarillo and it's something I take my child to whenever I get a chance.
It's a family tradition.
The beginning of Texas started in 1960 when Margaret Harper reached out to the playwright Paul Green and after a visit to the Texas Panhandle, TEXAS was born. The first performance took place in 1965.
Yes, there have been changes over the years, but it always comes back to the original script and the original story.
If it's been a while since you have seen TEXAS, then don't miss your chance to experience it again. It's a family-friendly show great for any age.
It's best to get your tickets early, especially for the weekend performances. If you do go on a weeknight, expect to be a little groggy the next day at work. The show doesn't start until around 8 pm and is over at 11 pm, plus your drive back from PDC.
This season runs Tuesdays-Saturdays, June 2 to August 13.
Oh and don't forget they serve an amazing BBQ meal before the show for an additional cost. It's kind of a great part of the experience.
