Heartfelt Farewell: Respected Amarillo Doctor to Close Practice

Finding a great doctor can be a challenge.  Especially when the doctor is kind, puts you at ease, and listens to you.  It's hard to find a doctor that listens, to what you are saying about your body and what you think is off and then finds a plan.

Now when it comes to finding a doctor in the gynecology and obstetrics world, that's another story.  Finding the perfect gyno is a must for most women, and sometimes a woman won't find that perfect gynecologist.  Amarillo has been lucky enough to have one of those doctors.

Dr. Robert Carrasco

Dr. Carrasco has been serving the Amarillo community for almost 30 years.  He has delivered countless babies, mine included.  When I was searching for a gynecologist after a horrible experience with another, a friend suggested Dr. Carrasco.  When it comes to women's health he is one of the best in Amarillo.

At the end of my pregnancy with my son, my heart started acting a little wacky. I vividly remember getting home and not feeling well. I thought my blood pressure might be high. A quick call to Dr. Carrasco's after-hours line had him calling me back within minutes, suggesting I go to the hospital.

When I arrived, Dr. Carrasco was there waiting for me. My heart rate was well over 200 and had been that high for hours. He carefully explained what was happening and told me he would need to call in a cardiologist. He did just that, and then he handed my care over to the new heart doctor.

Even though it became a heart issue, Dr. Carrasco still made sure to check on me and my baby throughout my hospital stay.

Thankfully, a month later, I gave birth to a very healthy baby, whom Dr. Carrasco delivered.

My heart issues for whatever reason were pregnancy-induced, but at every visit, he has always made sure to ask about my heart health, reminding me that if I ever wanted to have another baby, we’d need to keep a close eye on it. Every single visit, he asks about my son, my family, and my job, making me feel like the most important patient in the world.

He Treats All His Patients Like His Most Important Patient

I know it’s not just me. He treats all his patients like they are his most important priority. That’s what makes him so exceptional.

This is why, whenever someone asks on social media, 'I need a gynecologist/OB in Amarillo, any suggestions?' his name comes up repeatedly. That’s also why, whenever anyone asks me, I recommend him 100%!

The End of an Era

That's why it broke my heart when I received an email saying that Dr. Carrasco was closing his practice.

We regret to inform you that our medical practice, Carrasco & Carrasco, will be permanently closing as of January 31, 2025. It has been our honor to serve you and your Obstetrical and Gynecological healthcare needs since 1997.

Dr. Carrasco and his wife Dr. Londa Carrasco have been taking care of the Gynecological and Obstetrical needs of Amarillo and will be greatly missed.

I wish Dr. Carrasco all the best and thank him for taking care of my health for all these years and helping me through my pregnancy and delivery of my son.

The Next Steps as a Patient

If you are a patient of Dr. Carrasco, it will be difficult to find a new gynecologist/obstetrician like him.

However, since the practice is closing you might want to request your medical records.  You can contact their office now at 806-359-9100 during normal business hours to request a copy of your medical records.  There will be a $15 fee.  After January you can obtain your records by emailing your date of birth, last year of the office visit, and phone number to drscarrascooffice@yahoo.com.  There will be a $15 fee and an additional $6.50 fee for postage to mail your records.

The office will also be able to provide a list of providers in the area for your gynecological and obstetric needs.
