Eli Young Band Are ‘Nervously Excited’ to Release ‘Fingerprints’
The Eli Young Band's new album Fingerprints is due out on Friday (June 16), and, naturally, the group is "really excited" about the record. The 11-track disc is, at least according to the EYB, their best one yet, and the project that most authentically represents who they are, both as individuals and as a group.
"We feel like, maybe the last few years, we kind of went out there, and -- as musicians, you get bored; we all have ADD. We want to try new things and go out there and try to make new sounds," lead singer Mike Eli tells The Boot. "So I think that this new record is returning full circle and returning to the old-school Eli Young Band feel that our fans are used to and we’re used to."
The Eli Young Band have already given fans a sneak peek of four songs from Fingerprints on iTunes, including the record's title track and "Skin & Bones." They've started playing the songs live, too, and drummer Chris Thompson says fans have started singing the lyrics back to them.
"I’m excited to see what the fans think of it," bassist Jon Jones says. "And that’s the nice thing in this day and age, is, we’ll know right away how the fans react to it. And I guess we’re nervously excited about."
Another of the songs available early on iTunes is "Never Land," which was written by Eli and EYB guitarist James Young, along with hit songwriters Jon Nite and Ross Copperman. Although the title might evoke images of Peter Pan, the song doesn't quite go there.
"The whole point of it was never really to touch that. It’s more about never wanting to stop falling," Eli explains. "We all know what that feels like. We wanted to kind of stay away from the Peter Pan idea but still make it feel like that way."
