Thursday Governor Greg Abbott issued a Public Health Disaster, saying the orders under that declaration are created to help contain the spread of COVID-19.

Limiting social gatherings to no more than 10 people

Prohibiting eating and drinking at restaurants and bars

Closing gyms

Ban people from visiting nursing homes except for critical care

Temporarily close all schools

Abbott issued the executive order which prohibits social gathering of more than ten people, shutting down all inside dining restaurants and bars, closing bars and gyms and prohibiting visitation to hospitals and nursing homes. The order allows for drive-through and delivery only.

Abbott also ordered all Texas school districts to close at least through April 3. The Governor announced at todays press conference this executive order takes place Friday at midnight.

The order he stated does not prohibit people from going to the grocery store or getting gas. He stated that domestic travel is not prohibited, offices and workplaces should remain open, stating that employers should only ask essential personnel to report to work.

This order, Abbott said, is an essential tool in fighting the spread of COVID-19.
