When it comes to dominance in Amarillo, Texas, you have to hand it to Toot'n Totum. The old joke is that you can find one on almost every street corner and that there are more of them than anything else in town. They are everywhere, and every so often it seems like a whole swarm of new ones spring up in town. Is there anything that outdoes Toot'n Totum in Yellow City?

Previous Challengers To Toot'n Totums Grasp On The City

We've looked previously at two things that might outdo Toot'n Totum when it comes to the amount of real estate they take up in Amarillo, Texas. Most recently, we looked at vape shops. It was close, but Toot'n Totum claimed the prize in that fight. Also, considering that you can purchase vape products in gas stations, it was almost like they were playing both sides.

The only thing we've found so far that outdoes Toot'n Totum is churches. We looked at the number of congregations, regardless of religious affiliation, and found a staggering number of churches in the area. Let's just say this; no one is bigger in Amarillo, Texas than "The Man Upstairs".

Our curiosity knows no bounds though, dear reader, and so we are left with more weird hypothetical battles for Amarillo, Texas involving our most prolific purveyor of "petrol".

Are There More Coffee Shops or Toot'n Totums In Amarillo, Texas?

I asked this question on the air during "Charlie & Melissa In The Morning" and a short time later, a listener sent in the results of some quick counting he'd done. Abe, you're a saint for saving me time digging into this ridiculous question. You're a real gentleman and a scholar.

According to "The Tally According To Abe" (which is what we will be officially calling it) there are:

• 1 - Yellow City Grind

• Cafe Moonwater
• Coffee Fixx
• Whichever ones we've missed

If my math holds out, that's roughly 35 coffee shops in Amarillo. There's no doubt in my mind that few have been left out. The tricky part about coffee shops is that they're everywhere. Just when you thought you knew where they all were, more spring up on you. Coffee shops and Toot'n Totums have this in common; they reproduce at an alarming rate.

Does Amarillo, Texas Have More Toot'n Totums Than Coffee Shops?

Going to the Toot'n Totum website and trying my best to count the little logos scattered across the city, I came up with roughly 45 Toot'n Totum locations. That's trying to stay strictly within the city limits. Honestly, there's such an insane number of Toot'n Totums that it's going to be hard to find anything that can claim as many locations in Amarillo.

So, congrats to Toot'n Totum. You win this round.
