Recently, we went over the history of the Crystal Pistol in Amarillo, Texas. Eventually, the building would be condemned and torn down. Replacing it would be a Dollar General. While the building stood, there was an odd landmark that to this day has people arguing over its origins and meanings.

Tomb Of The Woman Of The Moonlight In Amarillo, Texas

Located on the grounds of what was once the Crystal Pistol was a tomb, or grave if you will. The grave was marked simply for The Woman Of The Moonlight. Considering the type of place that the Crystal Pistol was, it isn't hard to imagine what is meant by "Woman of the Moonlight".

A metal fence surrounded the sarcophagus, giving it a really odd and almost creepy vibe. On the sarcophagus was a plaque that read

She brought comfort to the souls of men...
Her love knew no boundaries...
She gave to those in need without discrimination...
May such love never be forgotten.

Sounds romantic. Who was this Woman Of The Night who gave love so freely to those in need?

First, legend has it that this was yet another stunt pulled by Amarillo's infamous mischief maker, Stanley Marsh 3. It isn't hard to imagine Marsh putting up the money to install this display near the Crystal Pistol. It seems to fit in with the rest of his "art" scattered across the area. It doesn't end there though. Supposedly, there is a very real person who inspired the tomb, and it isn't a joke at all.

Digging through old social media posts online, I came across the story of a woman named Sharon. Legend has it that she was a dancer at the Crystal Pistol at one point in time. Unfortunately, the story goes that Sharon was murdered. Marsh got inspired and had the tomb placed there.

The Woman Of The Night In Amarillo, Texas Has Become A Mystery

Looking online through news archives, it was tough to find any information at all about a murder associated with the tomb, the Crystal Pistol, and someone named Sharon. No matter how the search was worded, the results never came back relevant to the story of the Woman Of The Night.

For now, the tomb remains a bit of a mystery; at least to myself and many who weren't around when it was first installed.

Amarillo Landmarks: Negative Yelp Reviews

Yelp can be a strange and angry place. That's what I found out recently when I decided to sort the reviews by "lowest rating" first.

I was okay with the people upset over bad service and what not. But I came across a few reviews that, for lack of a better word, left me speechless in their scathing negative reviews on some of Amarillo's most iconic places. Prepare your self for plenty of head shaking and "I dunno" shrugs.

Look at How Amarillo's Old Route 66 Motels Looked Then & Now

The heyday of the Mother Road may be long gone, but would you believe that there's still plenty of the old motels where many a weary American family rested their heads during their interstate travels?

You won't believe some of these are still standing, much less still alive and (wait for it..) kickin'!
