When it comes to being from Amarillo, there are some things that people know about our city. Of course, they have heard about the Cadillac Ranch; they know we are home to Palo Duro Canyon, and we also have that 72 oz. steak.

There are several songs that have our city's name in them. The most notable, of course, is George Strait's 'Amarillo By Morning', it’s practically our city’s anthem." Amarillo is the city that a lot of people have a story about.

Whether they drove through on I-40, stayed a night, or have family ties, most people have a personal story about Amarillo. We know one thing, and that is most people have heard about this city for one reason or another.

They have heard about our wind, and we sometimes make national news for some crazy weather or fire story. Sometimes we even make the National News for other not-so-great reasons.

Carolyn Jones: The Panhandle’s Link to the Addams Family

The cool thing is, if we drive around the streets of Amarillo, we just may discover something that we never knew. I knew that Carolyn Jones was from Amarillo. Carolyn famously played Morticia Addams in the Addams Family television series.

She has a lot more roles credited to her name, but the Addams Family is where a lot of people know her from. Carolyn was born in 1933 and graduated from Amarillo High in 1947. What I didn't know was how many times I drove by her childhood home.

2503 Harrison Street: A Childhood Home in Oliver Eakle

She grew up in the Oliver Eakle addition, at 2503 Harrison Street, and I have spent most of my time in that area, Wolflin or Bivins. So when her house was pointed out to me, I realized how I have driven in that area a lot, and now I can say, "That is where Carolyn Jones grew up."
