Going to Vegas? Bypass the Casinos and Head to Omega Mart
Las Vegas, is the city that never sleeps, Sin City, and whatever happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.
Vegas is the place where dreams can come true or dreams can be completely shattered. It's a place a person needs to visit at least once in their lifetime.
Truth be told, I recently took my first trip to Vegas. I didn't go to gamble, I didn't go to see the shows. Let's face it anything with Cirque in the title immediately sends me into a panic attack. I have an unreasonable fear of anything Cirque. It would have been fun to see Adele or Carrie Underwood in concert, but I don't have that kind of money. Lord knows that I'm not lucky enough to bet on red and win enough money to purchase concert tickets to either concert. However, one place I insisted on making during our visit to Vegas was Area 15. It's just a different world in this area. We had to go during the day because I had my son with me and he's a minor and minors are not allowed in Area 15 after 9 pm.
Why Area 15?
Area 15 has a place called Omega Mart. Omega Mart is a different kind of grocery store. It's a portal to a completely different world. Keep in mind before you enter Area 15 you will have to go through security, no weapons of any kind are allowed, which means for those that carry pocket knives, leave them in your hotel room or in your car.
Omega Mart is the Las Vegas branch of Meow Wolf. It is an unbelievable world of imagination, art, and story. It was a must-see for me and it didn't disappoint.
As you walk into Omega Mart you will notice it is a grocery store, but as you move into the store you will start to notice things that aren't what they should be, items that are a tad bit different. During your exploration, you will find secret entrances into another world. You can walk into a secret opening through one of the refrigerated section doors, or even find yourself in a weird place after sneaking into the janitor's closet.
It is definitely a place worth visiting. During your visit, you can become an employee of Omega Mart, and by coming an employee you are tasked with solving a mystery for the CEO of the company. By the end of the visit, you will have experienced many twisty moments.
Omega Mart is just one of the many locations of Meow Wolf, you can find a branch in Santa Fe, Denver, and Grapevine as well as the Omega Mart in Las Vegas. Each location offers up a different experience.
Again, if you are going to Las Vegas you'll have to visit Area 15 and Omega Mart. Entry into this out-of-this-world grocery store will cost you about $64 per person on the weekends and if you are carrying a bag they will make you check it for an additional cost.
Is it worth it? Every single minute you are in Omega Mart is worth it, it's an amazing experience.
I cannot wait to visit the other Meow Wolf destinations.
