We have a state flower, bird, and even a tree.  And now, a Texas lawmaker wants to have an official state hat.

It is true, a bill has been filed to make the cowboy hat the official hat of Texas.  Rep. Marsha Farney, a Republican from Burnet, TX , filed the bill Monday.  The bill states that the cowboy hat has huge history and significance in Texas and is prevalent in today's culture.  The resolution also says, "The cowboy hat symbolizes both the state's iconic western culture and the uniqueness of its residents, and it is indeed appropriate that this stylish and dignified apparel receive special legislative recognition."

If we have a state bird, why not a state hat!  It just makes sense.  While this is all fine and dandy, I feel that our state officials have better things to discuss and vote on besides an official hat.  What do you think about the whole thing?
