Here’s How to Get Delicious, Crispy, and Hot Long John Silver’s in Amarillo

It's at a point that people in Amarillo are purposefully driving around 2 hours to get that fried fish, chicken, and crumbs.   Others, just find a spot when they are out of town.   The common thing among Amarillo people who get a plate of LJS food is they take a picture of it and post it on social media.

Social media is the lifesaver for some who desperately want Long John Silver's and don't want to drive for 2 hours to enjoy the crispy goodness.  What if you could copy that scrumptious delicacy in your home?   Now you can.   It's an easy enough recipe and since it's made in your kitchen, you can enjoy LJS food with your tweaks.

Recipe:

Heat the oil to 350 degrees.

Batter:

• 1C All-Purpose Flour
• 1/2t Baking Powder
• 1/2t Baking Soda
• 1/2t each Garlic Powder, Onion Powder or Paprika
• 2T Cornstarch
• 1C Club soda

Chicken Breasts strips or Cod (make sure they are dry before dropping them in the batter and then the oil)

Mix all the dry ingredients in a bowl, then add club soda, mix until combined.

Drop chicken breast strips or pieces of cod coat with the batter, and then place into the hot oil.

Cook 5-6 minutes.

The meat isn't seasoned, but this is your home so if you want it seasoned, then follow your heart.

Recipe:

• 1/4C all-purpose flour
• 1t Baking Powder
• 1/2C Corn Meal
• 1/4C Milk
• 1 Egg
• 1t Onion Powder
• 1t Garlic Salt

Mix it and then drop the batter into the hot oil.

If you want them into nice round balls, shape the batter before putting it into the hot oil.  Cook for 2-3 minutes.
