Reading is a great way to pass the time, or learn, or disappear into another world.  When reading a good book, it's always a treat to read about your home town or the area you live and grew up.

I admit I get giddy when I'm reading something and Amarillo is mentioned.  I always react with, "hey that's my home, they mentioned my home."  What's even better is when you are reading and you notice they use your city as a setting in the book.

I was wondering just how many books mention Amarillo or the Texas Panhandle.   So I went on a search.  Not only did I find a ton of fiction (a few non-fiction), I found a list of books I now need to reach.   These books vary from celebrity authors,( *cough* Stephen King *cough*) to children's books to thrillers, to sexy books.

Some of these books are written from folks who live here in the Texas Panhandle or grew up here, other must have just liked the setting of Amarillo and it fit the narrative.

If you're an avid reader you'll probably want to add all these these books to your list, if you're not you might find a book or two you'll want to read.  If you have kids, there's a few that look absolutely cute and would be a fun addition to your bedtime routines for the little ones.

Plus, it's a great way to support some of our local authors.

Here's the list of books that mention Amarillo or the Texas Panhandle.
