Amarillo, Texas, is packed with fascinating things to see and do and many people travel through the city.  In fact, I-40 runs right through and you’re bound to encounter some quirky experiences while driving along this interstate. Whether it’s the tourist attractions or rogue kangaroos, there’s always something interesting happening on I-40 Amarillo!

Most of the time the craziest things we see on I-40 are insane construction, a devastating wreck, or someone standing on an overpass with a crazy sign. However, recently this has been one of the craziest things that has happened on I-40 in a while.

I'm trying to figure out if this was daring, or just plain stupid. A man was riding a two-wheel scooter in the middle of I-40 West. The video shows them riding between Western and Coulter Streets.

Can You Legally Ride a Scooter on Interstates in Texas?

According to the Texas Transportation Code, no. The code says motor-driven cycles like scooters, mopeds, and bicycles with motors are prohibited from operating on interstates or highways.

This is a high-powered scooter and would fall under the code.  This is similar to the two-wheel scooters you buy your kids to ride in the neighborhood but has a motor and can reach high speeds.  This guy was going at least 60 mph.

This is what we can determine by watching the video. The man was cruising in a T-shirt, shorts, and sneakers. He didn't look to have any safety gear and wasn't wearing a helmet.  If he had run over something on the interstate or somehow got bumped he would have gone down and been thrown under a car.  There would be no way for a car going that fast to stop in time.  Heck, the force would have plummeted him under a car to the left or right depending on the fall.  I'm pretty sure he would not have survived.

Not sure what the point of doing this was, he could have been getting content for social media or just enjoying a drive because that was the only transportation he had.  Either way, we may never know what the thinking was behind this stunt.  All we know is what is seen in this video.  Thank goodness nothing happened at this time.
