Multiple Panhandle Fires Force Evacuations
Amarillo first responders battled the blaze that took over in northern Amarillo (Dumas Complex). The high winds fueled the blaze which stretched over 23,000 acres. The Texas A&M Forest Service have made progress in preventing the movement of the fire. Air tankers from Abilene were assigned to the fire.
The Wheeler County Sheriff's office has confirmed three people have perished in the Gray County fire. An optional evacuation for the Gray County was lifted after the wind shift and the fire moved from the threat of homes. However, residents in Wheeler County near the blaze should be aware of possible evacuation.
Four firefighters were injured battling the high wind blaze, two of the firefighters are in critical condition.
