A few weeks ago, an iconic piece of Amarillo history went up for foreclosure auction. For generations of locals, Tuesday, April 7, 2026, felt like the end of an era.

The Music Box: An Amarillo Institution Since 1969

This colorful, eclectic building brought an immense vibe to generations of locals from all over the Texas Panhandle. This shop became an institution. Toni Sympson owned the property beginning in the early 1990s and gave us the Music Box we all know and love.  Then, in 2023, according to PRAD, the property was sold to Austin McDonald.

Now the contents of this popular business are up for sale. The Music Box Estate Sale is happening today through Sunday, April 25. The sale will be open from 11 am - 8 pm.

  • Wholesale and bulk deals - perfect for resellers, shop owners, and deal hunters

The Music Box Estate Sale isn't happening in the iconic building; the sale will be at 1225 S. Bonham. The estate sale organizers are asking those attending to use the side door.

It is unknown if the iconic pieces of art on display outside The Box will be included in the estate sale. The Third-Eye, the Kaleidoscope, and the Dragonfly had all been seen on Facebook Marketplace earlier in April.

Shocking Twist: The Property Goes Back to Sympson Enterprises

According to PRAD, both properties, 905 and 907 S. Madison, went back to Sympson Enterprises, the previous owners. The deed changed hands on April 7, the day of the auction.

Could The Music Box Have a Future in Amarillo?

Does this mean that The Music Box isn't gone? Will this iconic business live for another 57 years, bringing memories and nostalgia for generations to come?  Only time will tell.

The Tiny Box

The Tiny Box is a one-bedroom, one-bath apartment with washer/dryer hookups that can be rented right next to Amarillo's iconic Music Box.
