
Amarillo Fire Department Responds to Blaze at Popular Restaurant
Amarillo has seen quite a few fires over the last few weeks, but most have been abandoned buildings. However, social media blew up yesterday afternoon with this beloved restaurant caught on fire.
Munchies Restaurant Was on Fire in Amarillo
The initial social media comments yesterday stated that it was Elmo's Drive-in on fire, but it turns out it wasn't Elmo's it was across the street at Munchies. One poster said that it didn't catch on fire they just had some sort of leak, while another commented it was a fire because smoke was pouring out the door.
The Amarillo Fire Department Puts Out Fire at Munchies
According to the Amarillo Fire Department, Munchies located at 2509 SW 3rd Ave, on Monday, February 24th. When the fire crews arrived they saw heavy grey smoke coming from the roof and the front entrance of the building. The AFD sent twelve apparatus and 40 personnel, who began to attack the interior of the building. They removed ceiling tiles and sheetrock to keep the fire from spreading and used ventilation fans to clear the restaurant of smoke. They were able to get the fire under control at 4:56 pm.
The building was empty at the time and no injuries were reported. The content loss of the property is still being determined. As of this time the cause of the fire has not been released and is still under investigation.

It wasn't too long ago that a post on Facebook Marketplace said that the restaurant and contents were up for sale, but was quickly removed.

I wonder what the fate of the fire means for this Amarillo restaurant. Hopefully, they can rise from the ashes, and when they do, the citizens of Amarillo can rally around them and support their reopening.
