Quick Reminder: What You Post Online Can Get You Fired
What you post online, that's on you. We've all posted some insane stuff that we later regret. I've got things online that I thought were deep and insightful that I look back on now and realize were pure cringe and are as deep as a shallow puddle.
For some of us, it goes beyond cringe. For some of us, the insanity that we thrust on the world gets us fired from our job, or kicked out of school.
It's no secret that social media networks are all a hot bed for insanity. People say things in comment sections they would never have the stones to say in person. Just take a look at any of the comment sections of our local news channels. It is pure insanity how people go at each other.
I wish I could give you a quick list of ways to protect yourself online, but there's really only one thing you should do. Don't be a jerk. Don't be an idiot. Don't try to be Captain Edge Lord. No one thinks it's funny, and it can possibly cost you your job.
Your employer, who is more concerned with the bottom line than your "freedom of speech to say stupid stuff," is only going to care how the mental sludge you toss online is going to reflect poorly on the company. You'll only have yourself to blame.
Practice what you preach to your kids. Play nice.
