Final Days for Amarillo's Route 66 Family Buffet

The days of the all-you-can-eat family buffet in Amarillo are coming to a close. A beloved restaurant in Amarillo is closing its doors.

Why Route 66 Family Buffet Is Closing

Route 66 Family Buffet, 2221 S Soncy Rd, will be closing on Tuesday, June 30, after serving Amarillo for almost 3 years. After Furr's Buffet closed its restaurants, a group opened Route 66 Family Buffet in September 2023, serving down-home cooking that Furr's left behind. Many of the people who brought us Route 66 Family Buffet worked for Furr's for many years.

According to a note posted on the restaurant door, the restaurant will close, and another restaurant will move into the building.

What's Moving Into the Building: Ocean Buffet

As the note states, it will soon be known as Ocean Buffet. From what we hear, Ocean Buffet will be a new Asian buffet for Amarilloans to enjoy. The contact name on the notice was Louis Lou, and the phone number is connected to multiple Asian restaurants across Texas.

We reached out to Route 66 Family Buffet for comment, but at the time of publishing, we had not yet received a response. We'll update the article if a response is received.

Where to Get Down-Home Buffet Food in Amarillo Now

With the closure of Route 66 Family Buffet, the only place similar that offers a down-home cooking buffet is Golden Corral. If you enjoyed Route 66 Family Buffet because it reminded you of Furr's, this is your sign to say goodbye to this type of food in Amarillo.
