Sorry to be the one to break it to you... but reading these words is actually making you stupider.

While the fact remains true that modern Internet is the greatest collection of knowledge and information in human history, according to a new book The Shallows: What the Internet is Doing to Our Brains and one study out of UCLA, science has officially proven that the Internet is making us dumber. But the reason for our brain decay is actually a fairly simple one to understand. All their data boils down to one thing...

LINKS

Plane and simple... that's it... links. Here's why.

When you're reading something online you're constantly inundated with links to more articles, videos, ads, pictures, and even more ads. That makes your brain work over time when you read, because it has to make decisions.

When you read a good ol' fashion book, you don't have any choices like that. And because your brain isn't making decisions, it does a better job processing what it's reading and committing it to memory.

So... I guess the paper cuts are worth the risk to save your brain from mush.
