Special Olympics Group Verbally Assaulted At Amarillo Town Club
The post that went viral on Facebook has been taken down.
Sabrina Johnson, the mother of a Special Olympics athlete in Amarillo, shared her disbelief after a man acted inappropriately toward the group at the Amarillo Town Club a few weeks ago.
The Special Olympics is an organization that provides athletic training and hosts competitions for intellectually disabled children and adults. Johnson's son, Dylan, has cerebral palsy, which is a neurological disorder that affects muscle movement and coordination. He swims with the Amarillo Special Olympics and was preparing for a swim meet when the unfortunate confrontation happened.
News outlets have reported two different stories about what caused the man to become upset - in one story, a man was swimming in a lane reserved for the Special Olympics; in the other, a member of the Special Olympics team drifted into the man's lane. Either way, the man became irate and screamed obscenities at the team.
What makes this story even worse is that, according to Johnson, this is the second time that man has harassed the group at the Amarillo Town Club.
Town Club officials said that they have taken care of the situation but can't confirm that the man's membership has been revoked due to confidentiality.
