Tennessee Getting Biggest Buc-ee’s And West Texas is Feeling the FOMO
Ah, Buc-ee's. I've only ever heard the stories- and they're all great. Brandon is a huge fan of Buc-ee's, and if I ever find myself in East Texas, that is definitely my first stop! However, if I want to visit the largest Buc-ee's in the world, East Texas, or really anywhere in Texas, will no longer be the destination.
That's right, now Texas won't even have the biggest Buc-ee's in the world! That honor will now go to... Tennessee! Currently, the New Braunfels store off Interstate 35 is the world’s largest convenience store, measuring more than 66,000 square feet worth of food, drinks, home goods, souvenirs, pristine bathrooms and whatever else someone would ever desire (I'm especially fond of the Beaver Nuggets).
However, earlier this week, the company announced plans to build a massive 74,000-square-feet flagship store near Sevierville, Tennessee, a town of about 17,000 people east of Knoxville. This will be the first Buc-ee's in Tennessee and the biggest in the world. I guess not everything is bigger in Texas anymore.
While it isn't the first Buc-ee's outside of Texas, there are locations in Alabama, Georgia, Florida, and constructing stores in South Carolina and Kentucky, it is a little bittersweet. It's also leaving me, and other El Pasoans and residents of West Texas feeling a bit of FOMO!
When I think of Buc-ees I certainly think "TEXAS". When do we (us in El Paso) get a Buc-ees? We don't have a Buc-ees, we don't have an H-E-B, when is it our turn to have something that connects us with the rest of Texas?! It's almost as if Texas doesn't want to recognize that El Paso exists! Well, at least we don't have to deal with ERCOT.
