Texas Gas Prices Rise Again Before Easter Weekend
Texans won't be catching a break at the pumps this weekend as we head into Easter. The Easter Bunny isn't bringing cheaper gas prices this week. In fact, gas prices have risen for the fifth straight week.
Texas Gas Prices Rise for Fifth Week
According to AAA Texas, gas prices in Texas rose 19 cents this week. However, we are still below the national average. The national average for a price of one gallon of regular unleaded is $4.08. Texas' average is $3.90. Unfortunately, that’s 96 cents more than we were paying at this time last year.
Amarillo remains the lowest in the state, while El Paso is back up to the highest.
What Drivers Are Paying Across Texas
- Amarillo: $3.27 (no change, lowest)
- Lubbock: $3.30 (up 2 cents)
- Midland: $3.88 (down 1 cent)
- Tyler: $3.69 (up 19 cents)
- El Paso: $3.91 (up 8 cents, highest)
If prices continue to rise, this will likely be the last week that Texas isn't seeing gas over $4 per gallon.

Texas Cities Closest to $4 Per Gallon
The following Texas cities are teetering on the $4 mark:
- El Paso: $3.91
- Dallas: $3.89
- Midland: $3.88
- San Angelo: $3.87
- Killeen-Temple-Fort Hood: $3.87
- McAllen: $3.87
These are the highest Texas gas prices we’ve seen since 2022. The record high was $4.70 per gallon on June 15, 2022. If the conflict in the Middle East doesn't come to a close and gas prices keep rising, we very well may be paying that much by June 2026.
Why Gas Prices Keep Rising
As of Thursday, April 2, OilPrice.com reports that crude oil is at $111 per barrel.
OPIS experts say the ongoing conflict in the Middle East is continuing to impact global oil supply, with crude prices staying above $100 per barrel and no clear timeline for when market conditions may stabilize.
