Texas Has An Unlikely Ally: New Hampshire
From 1836 to 1845, Texas was something extremely unique.
Attached to the United States, yet it was its own country.
It was in 1845 when it decided to join the United States.
As time progressed, Texas got to the point where they started to seriously explore seceding from the United States again. They've been looking into it for quite some time now and there have definitely been some pushes to get it done.
Here's what you may not know...we aren't alone in wanting to secede.
For a decade now, New Hampshire has been exploring the options to do just that.
The effort began back in 2012 when the Foundation for New Hampshire Independence was formed by Dave Ridley. He said it was a mission to educate New Hampshire residents about the benefits to it's own independence.
Back in September of 2021, they moved a step closer to this becoming a potential reality as legislation was introduced to allow the people to vote on it in November 2022.
So what would it take for this to successfully happen? A lot, let's put it that way.
The legislation would have to garner 60% of the Senate and House in order to even move forward. It would NOT need the Governor's approval either.
If they manage to the the 60% needed, it would continue to move forward and be put on the ballot for the general public to vote.
Say they were to land better than 66% of the public vote, it would pass through and create a new constitutional amendment.
That amendment would read, “New Hampshire peaceably declares independence from the United States and immediately proceeds as a sovereign nation. All other references to the United States in this constitution, state statutes, and regulations are nullified.”
That's right, nullified. We would be knocked down to 49 states and a country living inside a country for all intents and purposes.
Could New Hampshire be the state that leads the way and shows how to get something like this done? Only time will tell, but I can bet Texas is keeping a close eye on the proceedings.
