I have worked for several of our local sports teams over the years. I hung out at the ticket booth and was on the mic in between innings for the Amarillo Sox. I ran all over the Amarillo Civic Center for many years as well for the Amarillo Bulls. I even spent some time doing the same thing for the Amarillo Venom.

If you look closely that is me in all black with the mic that everyone is surrounding during a Venom game.

Boy those games were intense. My first game working was a Championship game, so no pressure there. Right?

I loved it so much that I went back for a couple more seasons.

The Amarillo Venom have been a part of Amarillo for eleven seasons. That is many years of family fun at the Amarillo Civic Center. So it came as a surprise to me when owner, Stephanie Tucker, made the announcement that there will not be a 2022 season.

From the Venom Facebook page:

We have decided that it is in the best interest of the Venom organization to forego the 2022 Football season.

I get it. The Tucker's have three children who have grown up with the organization. They have a daughter about to graduate high school. They don't want to miss all the important stuff as her high school days are winding down.

The season takes up a lot of work and a heck of a lot of time. It is totally understandable.

So What is Going to Happen With No More Venom?

In the announcement Stephanie mentioned that the team is for sale. She, and our whole community, would love to see it go to someone locally.

As you know, our families have grown up with the Venom and the community. We now feel like it is time for another family to take over the Championship traditions. With that said, the Venom is now for sale! We want to help another local family or group to live the dream of offering PRO FOOTBALL to our amazing community.

Maybe someone who spent time and the games and has the passion to keep it going. Good luck to the Tucker family and we will miss the Venom this season. Hopefully we will see them back soon.
