When you think back on the days gone by in Amarillo, you can remember some iconic events and restaurants. Country Pride, Leal’s, Ruby Tequila’s, Harrigan’s, and Crystal Confectionery are just a few that have come and gone. Funfest, the Christmas Lights drive-through in John Stiff Park, and Homer’s Backyard Ball were some of the favorites.

However, one big event that used to happen at this time of year in Amarillo was massive and frightening: The Big Boo. The Big Boo was one of the largest haunted attractions in Amarillo

Final Run and Legacy of The Big Boo

The final Big Boo took place in 2015 after haunting Amarillo for 20 years. Even though The Big Boo is no longer around, it filled many Amarillo residents with haunted memories.

If you ever entered The Big Boo, you know how scary it was. You might have wondered if you’d ever see the light of day again. The ghosts and ghouls hidden in the depths of the Boo almost grabbed on and didn't let go.

It’s fun to listen to Bobby and Patrick Lee recount the history of The Big Boo. They describe patrons running from the haunted house, with a guy chasing them with a chainsaw. Even guests at The Big Texan, just trying to use the restroom, stumbled into the terrifying chaos.

Could The Big Boo Return?

Bobby Lee teased that The Big Boo might make a comeback one day. It would be wonderful to see it haunt Amarillo again. I guess we’ll just have to wait until next year to find out.
