This is What Amarillo Wants In Our Mall after Coronavirus
There is no doubt that the coronavirus and Covid-19 have had a devastating effect on some businesses. Both local and national retailers have seen sales diminish as they have had to change their operations or close down completely. Don't forget that our restaurants are a category of business that may have taken the biggest hit. One place that I know has been hit hard is Westgate Mall and the stores inside. We will have to wait and see how the mall bounces back or if it can in the long term.
I asked on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, that if you could have any store or restaurant in Westgate Mall, what would it be? The sky was the limit on what you could suggest, and here were the top answers:
- Dick's Sporting Goods
- P.F. Changs
- Lululemon
- H&M
- Cheesecake Factory
- Cattle Call BBQ
- Jack In The Box
- Claim Jumpers
- American Eagle
- Five Below
- Home Goods
- Trader Joe's
- At Home
- Bass Pro Shop Outdoor World
For our mall to survive, it needs to keep innovating and attracting new business. The last thing I want to see is our mall go out of business like I have seen so many others do. We have already seen one anchor, Sears, go out of business in the last couple years. While JC Penny said they are reopening the Amarillo store, the company has just announced they are closing about a quarter of their stores around the country. It begs the questions - how long will our store stay open down the road? What else do you want to see on this list? Leave us a message on our app or social media and let us know. Hopefully these great retailers and restaurants on this list will take a closer look at Amarillo next time they are looking to expand.
