One week after canceling another round of shows, the Turnpike Troubadours have announced that they are going on an "indefinite hiatus." The band says they'll be taking a break "until a time we feel that everyone is of strong mind, body and spirit and can deliver what our fans deserve."

"We want nothing more than the opportunity for to heal, and to not put all of you through this ever again. To have a chance for any of this, we need to cancel all of our remaining tour dates," the band writes in a statement on Instagram. "To all of you who have given us so much, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. You believed in us, you raised us up, you stuck by us and you gave us more unconditional love than any band could ask for. We are humbled.

"We ask that you please keep us in your thoughts and prayers as we work to support and encourage," the band's statement concludes. Refunds for tickets to scheduled shows, they note, will be available at the point of purchase; the group had about a dozen shows scheduled from June through August.

The Turnpike Troubadours had been canceling shows sporadically, and often at the last minute, for months, largely without explanation. At the shows the band did perform, frontman Evan Felker had been slurring his words and forgetting lyrics, leaving fans worried about his wellness. The rest of the band kept their statements about the situation vague, however.

The Turnpike Troubadours have released five studio albums since forming in the late 2000s; their most recent record, 2017's A Long Way From Your Heart, earned the No. 1 spot on the folk and indie charts and the No. 3 spot on the country charts. During the band's run on Miranda Lambert and Little Big Town's Bandwagon Tour in 2018, Lambert and Felker reportedly began dating while they both were in relationships with other people: Lambert with boyfriend of two years Anderson East and Felker with wife Staci, from whom he then filed for divorce.

Neither Lambert nor Felker commented on the matter, but photos of the two holding hands made their way around the internet in July. However, in late August, Lambert told the Tennessean that she was single; around the same time, Felker's ex-wife defended him to critics on social media. That's also when the concert cancellations began.
