On Saturday, September 30, at 11:44 am, Amarillo Police officers were called to an accident on Wolflin and Port.   Upon arrival, a white male was being treated by witnesses to the accident.  APD took over aid until the Amarillo Medical Services and the Amarillo Fire Department arrived.

A black 2018 Dodge Journey driven by Diana Wood, a 78-year-old female.  Wood was traveling west on Wolfin and proceeded through the intersection where she hit the pedestrian as he crossed the street diagonally.    The male was identified as Johnathan Mack Minimum, aged 69,  was taken to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries.

The Traffic Investigation Department of the APD is currently investigating the incident.

Amarillo has seen its share of vehicle vs. pedestrian accidents this year:

  • On January 22, 2023, Hayden Paul Ducommun was hit while crossing the street in the 2700 block of Osage, he died at the scene.
  • May 14, 2023 - Randall Country Sheriff Deputy Jay Claxton was working on his boat at his home on Buccuola Ave. and was hit by a black SUV.  He later died from his injuries.
  • July 12, 2023 - An APD officer was hit in front of the police department while using the crosswalk on SE 3rd, between Taylor and Fillmore.  The officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
  • August 31, 2023 - 31-year-old Marcus Stone was hit while crossing the street at Amarillo Blvd and Ong.  He later died from his injuries.

If you are a pedestrian, please be aware of your surroundings and always try to cross at a crosswalk.  As a driver, it is imperative to pay attention to your surroundings when driving.
