Visiting The Health Department? You Need To Make Sure It’s The Right Place.

If you plan on visiting the Amarillo Public Health Department later this month, you need to make sure you're headed to the right place. The Health Department is moving.

Amarillo Public Health Department Just Got Too Big

Another way of saying it is that they outgrew their current offices. According to a press release put out by the City of Amarillo, things were at the point where storage boxes were lining hallways.

They called them "makeshift cabinets".

The press release points out that in the past decade they had simply outgrown their current location.

Pack Up And Move To A Bigger Place

In my mind, I like to imagine the Health Department loading everything up like the Clampetts. Stack it high in an old jalopy and head across town.

Unfortunately, I don't think it will be quite that theatrical.

The Amarillo Public Health Department is basically moving next door. Their new location is at 850 Martin Road.

Their current location is 1000 Martin Road. It's not that far of a move.

APHD will swing the doors open on their new location on May 16.

What Once Was Old Is Made New Again

The new location of APHD isn't necessarily all that "new." They aren't moving into a newly constructed building.

Instead, they're moving into a remodeled clinical facility. The best part for APHD is that it is a bigger facitlity.

According to the press release from the City of Amarillo, no city funds were used in the remodeling of the facility. Instead, funding was used from a "state-administered program."
