The other morning I was in a rush and forgot to get some coffee before leaving the house to drop the kids off at school. I stopped in at a Pak-A-Sak to get a cup.

Then on my way home I needed my second cup (it takes a bit to drop the kids off) so I stopped at the next gas station I saw. It happened to be a Toot 'n Totum.

I always assumed gas station coffee was the same across the board, when it comes to the "House Blend." I figured there was a company somewhere named Gas Station Coffee LLC and they supplied everyone with the same stuff.

But the flavors of the Toot 'n Totum and Pak-A-Sak coffee were distinctly different.

Toot 'n Totum's coffee had a much more pronounced flavor. It was more bitter, which is usually what I go for. Give it to me as dark as the inside of a cave at midnight.

The Pak-A-Sak cup was more mellow. It had a more "soothing" flavor than the wake-up-and-conquer-the-world flavor of the Toot 'n Totum cup.

All this to say, Pak-A-Sak won me over. That's because I'm usually in a rush when I get gas station coffee, and I drink it in big gulps.

When I'm at home or the office, I like my coffee straight up and dark as you can make it. That's because I don't try and down it like I'm shotgunning a brew.

What are your thoughts? Do you have a specific gas station where you stop to get that on-the-go cuppa?
