What Does Texas Transportation Code 545.060 Say?

I decided to dig in to see if that was a myth, something someone made up to make sure a driver was safe, or if it is actually indeed a law.  The specific law we need to look into is Texas Transportation Code 545.060.

When Can You Legally Change Lanes?

To paraphrase the code, Texas law requires drivers on roads with marked lanes to remain in their lane whenever reasonably possible. A driver may change lanes only when it can be done safely. On three-lane roads carrying traffic in both directions, the center lane generally may only be used for passing, preparing for a left turn, or when traffic signs allow it. Traffic-control signs may also restrict lane changes or direct certain vehicles into specific lanes.

So, is it illegal to change lanes in an intersection? No, as long as you follow the laws and do it carefully. However, a police officer may see you breaking other laws and could pull you over and cite you for them.
