Amarillo Nostalgia: Remembering This Cajun Restaurant and Missing Its Delicious Food
Amarillo has had some delicious restaurants over the years. However, some restaurants are long gone, but the food was so good that you crave it 10 years later.

Long before The Lazy Gator, The Lost Cajun, and The Drunken Oyster, Amarillo had a Cajun restaurant that was to die for when it came to their food. When people talk about their favorite restaurant there will always be someone who says the food was overrated, but this place was exceptionally good and it was gone way too soon.
Willie's Bayou Grill
Long before it was Aspen Dental, the building at 3819 I-40 was Willie's Bayou. The building was built in 2008.
Willie's was the prime place in Amarillo to get Cajun and Creole food. They had every Po Boy you could imagine, and their fried menu included fish, shrimp, crawfish, oysters, and even gator. So many great choices and so hard to decide. The fact there was so much to choose from guaranteed that you'd have to go back.
One of the top things to eat at Willie's Bayou was their Shrimp Ettouffee.
Their fried green bean appetizer was the best around.
The hushpuppies were also the best. They had a full menu of delicious cajun food, and occasionally offered specials that you couldn't find on the menu. If you had people with you who didn't like cajun food, there was a whole section of non-cajun food to enjoy as well. If you were lucky, you got to try every single thing on their menu.
Willie's Bayou Grill Menu
Willie's Bayou Grill also offered live music, and Amarillo's Andy Chase played there often.
Unfortunately, Willie's Bayou Grill closed in February 2013, and not long after Willie's closed the building was turned into a dentist's office.
