If there is one thing in life I love, it's tacos!  Recently, Texas Monthly magazine took a tour around Texas to find the "120 Tacos You Must Eat Before You Die" and three, yes three, of our Amarillo restaurants made the list.

Every since I moved to Amarillo, my goal has been to try each and every hole in the wall restaurants I can.  I've been here for 12 years and I still haven't had a chance to try all the delicious food.  But I am happy to say that I have tried all 3 of the restaurants that made the Texas Monthly list!

Tacos are a little piece of heaven on a tortilla!  I can't ever get enough.  The list of 'The 120 Tacos You Must Eat Before You Die' was put out this past week and I agree with all of Amarillo's.

El Tejavan

Al Pastor
Type: Classic Mexican
Rating: 4.75
Price: $8.99/platter
Here in cattle country, it’s beef—not pork—that’s cooked al pastor. The well-marinated steak is elevated by simple cilantro, onions, and freshly made corn tortillas; there’s also chunky guacamole, shredded lettuce, tomatoes, and salsa served on the side for you to create your own ideal balance of sweet, savory, and spicy. 3420 I-40W, 806-354-2444. Mon–Sat 8–10, Sun 8–4.
Tortilleria Lupita
Chile Verde
Type: Classic Mexican
Rating: 4.75
Price: $1.89
Lupita’s is a tortilla factory, so don’t expect much in the way of atmosphere or seating. You’ll note the corn drying for tomorrow’s milling, and as you wait, you can watch your taco’s progress: the tortilla is heated on the griddle, topped with slow-cooked green chile pork, and finished with sprinkles of cheese, lettuce, onion, and cilantro. Grab some fresh red salsa from the cooler and you’re good to go. 4013 E. Tenth Ave, 806-372-3537. Daily 8–6.
El Giro
Carne Asada
Type: Classic Mexican
Rating: 4.5
Price: $6.99/plate
Talk about guilt-free: the steak at this Guadalajara-style joint is super-lean, and the tortillas are so small you can wolf down one taco in three or four bites. It’s impossible to decide between the red (tomatillo-and-chipotle-based) or the green (tomatillo-based and hot!) salsa, so get both. 1800 Bell, 806-318-3859. Sun–Thur 9–9, Fri & Sat 9–10.
I have had the pleasure of eating at each of these locations and they all have delicious food.  But I will have to say that Amarillo has so many more that should be on the list.  What are some of your favorite taco spots?
