Amarillo’s Accent? New Video Claims It’s One of the Hardest to Understand in Texas
Texas is full of all kinds of different people. As with many states, you will find different types of accents. Accents are determined by the area in which they grew up, and in Texas, you will find multiple regional dialects. Texas is full of that southern drawl, but the southern drawl in south Texas is different than the southern drawl in the Texas Panhandle.

A new video popped up on social media from pxmxieawsmy16, that shares the hardest accents to understand in Texas. Amarillo was named as one of the top accents in Texas hardest to understand. Truthfully, it was quite comical. The Yellow City was ranked #4.
The way people speak here often sounds like something is caught in their throat combined with a slightly muffled delivery that makes it difficult for non-locals to follow.
It's not transparent where the data from this video originated, but for most of us who are from Amarillo, or anywhere else in Texas we've all been understood. It seems that this video was made for those who live outside of Texas, but again, most people out of state understand people from Amarillo loud and clear.
What City in Texas Has the Easiest Accent to Understand?
The person who created the video seems to think that Austin has the easiest and clearest accent to understand because people "speak clearly and in a standard matter" That could be because Austin has more out-of-state residents than Texas residents these days.
Is the Dialect from Texas Difficult for Non-Texans to Understand?
According to this video, it is, but it also floors me that the person that put this video together didn't do enough research to find out how these cities were pronounced, for instance, Laredo (another city with "hard to understand" accents) was pronounced Larito, and Mesquite was pronounced Mess-qwite. Let's not even get started with Nacogdoches.
This video may be all AI. However, judge for yourself. Did the video get it right, or oh so wrong?
