Have you ever had a moment where you were certain something happened?  You swear to this day, that this certain something did happen, but it never did. It's almost like the Mandela Effect.

I was recently posed with a question. One I was certain the answer was no.

Is "Amarillo By Morning" in Urban Cowboy?

At first, the automatic answer is no. No, it's not. Then your brain starts playing tricks on you and makes you think well maybe the song is in the movie. It could be, it's around that time.

I'm sitting there trying to figure out if the song could possibly be in the movie Urban Cowboy.

Terry Stafford and Paul Frazer wrote the song in 1973, Stafford recorded "Amarillo By Morning", and released the song on his album, "Anybody Seen My Sweet Gypsy Rose" in '73. Chris LeDoux also recorded the song in 1975.

The movie Urban Cowboy was released in 1980, so it is feasible that the song is in the movie somewhere.

The song didn't become insanely popular until George Strait recorded and released the song in 1982, two years after the movie's release.

I even googled "Is "Amarillo By Morning" in Urban Cowboy", and nothing.  I know the movie was mainly comprised of songs by Johnny Lee, Mickey Gilley, Charlie Daniels, and that old lady that beat out Taylor Swift and Beyonce at the Grammy's for Song of the Year.  I kid, the great and untimely talented Bonnie Raitt.

I looked up the Urban Cowboy soundtrack to see the track listing and if "Amarillo By Morning" was included.

Nope, not one mention of "Amarillo By Morning" or Terry Stafford.  None.

Maybe, the song was in the intro, as Bud was leaving home and moving to Houston.  But, then again, Bud was leaving Spur, (south of Amarillo) and going south to Houston.  So why would they play "Amarillo By Morning"?  Plus, he was a mechanical bull rider, so why would he be in Amarillo by morning.  They didn't even take his saddle in Houston.  He was a mechanical bull rider, and you don't use a saddle on a bull.

OK, rant over!  But I cannot stop thinking,

Why would anyone ask that question if it wasn't in the movie?

So, the only other logical conclusion I could come up with was, I guess I'm gonna have to watch the movie and see for myself.  So I did.

I did not hear "Amarillo By Morning" once.  It could have been playing in the background of a scene, my hearing isn't the greatest anymore after decades of having my headphones and earbuds on or in my ears daily.  However, every song, that was sung or in the background of the movie was on the above track listing.

There you have it.  "Amarillo By Morning" is not in Urban Cowboy.

If I'm wrong, feel free to reach out with the proof.

Oh and another, AHA! moment.  Uncle Bob in Urban Cowboy is the great Barry Corbin.  BARRY CORBIN.    I didn't realize and I'm ashamed, that Uncle Bob is Barry Corbin, the same guy who has shown up in multiple movies including War Games, Lonesome Dove, and TV shows like Dallas, Northern Exposure, The Ranch, and Yellowstone, one of the 6666 episodes.  I didn't put two and two together, because as he aged he morphed into an entirely different human.
