Live theatre is one of Amarillo’s true gems. In any given month, you can find amazing plays and musicals. One of the places in Amarillo where you can catch live theater is the Amarillo Little Theatre, or ALT for short.

What Is the Amarillo Little Theatre?

The Amarillo Little Theatre was established in 1927. For those who don’t want to do the math, that’s 98 years. The ALT is known as one of the oldest continuously operating theaters in the country and brings live theater to the residents of the Texas Panhandle.

ALT’s Famous Faces Over the Years

Some of the notable names that have graced the ALT stage in 98 years include: Ben Vereen, Tommy Tune, Michael Feinstein, Betty Buckley, Kristin Chenoweth, Megan Mullally, Megan Hilty, and Kelli O’Hara.

Oprah Winfrey even filmed her talk show at ALT during her time in Amarillo when she was on trial in the Texas Panhandle.
