Back in May 2022, it was announced that United Supermarkets would be building another Market Street in Amarillo. The store will be located at Coulter and Hollywood Road.

Then in September 2022, the United Family hosted a groundbreaking at the site where Market Street is being built. During the groundbreaking the powers that be announced the tentative opening for the new Market Street would be Fall 2023. Fast forward to May 2023 and construction has yet to start on the site

What Happened to new market Street United?

Many people were extremely excited to have a grocery store in the area. Many housing developments have been built in the area and the closest grocery store is the Walmart on Coulter, Neighborhood Market on Arden Road, or driving into Canyon.

What’s with the delay?

We reached out to United Supermarkets to ask, why the delay.

The United Family is very excited to bring a new Market Street location to the Amarillo community. While we initially hoped to be open for business in 2023, extenuating circumstances with the supply chain and construction costs have made it necessary to adjust our timeline to the Summer of 2024. The community can expect to see some movement on the site within the next couple of months. This Market Street will have all the perks like the Market Street on Georgia but will include a Chopsticks Noodle and Sushi Bar, as well as a top-rated Evie Mays BBQ

The new Market Street is still coming to Southwest Amarillo but we’ll just have to wait another year.
