One of the things I loved about living in Amarillo is the fact that it is a great place to raise a family. It's a smaller town that doesn't necessarily feel small. We have stuff to do here constantly. Which is nice.

I have been here for years, and the safety of the city has been questioned over the years. When you run into facts like this. It kind of scares me. As it should.

Though Potter County is pretty high on that list and that scares me. I am ok with letting Lubbock beat us in this fact. Each and every time. So is Potter County really all that bad? I guess that depends on who you are and where you look.

I have lived in Potter County pretty much most of the time I have been in Amarillo. I always say when I look for my next home I am looking only in Randall County. That wasn't because of the crime. It was because the property taxes are cheaper in Randall and I wouldn't get called to jury duty as much. Really those were and always have been my motivation to move. Though, each and every time the home I find and love ends up being in Potter.

If you look at this study from this year you will see that Amarillo is listed in the top 10 of the most dangerous cities in Texas. We are pretty low in the top 10 but we are still there.

OK, so that is our city. Which is bad. So how do we know that Potter County is worse than Randall? Is it really?

Well according to this crime site we warrant a D+ in Potter County for our crime grade. Check it out HERE. So Potter doesn't warrant an F. That is a positive I guess. But according to the study:

The D+ grade means the rate of crime is higher than the average US county. Potter County is in the 30th percentile for safety, meaning 70% of counties are safer and 30% of counties are more dangerous.

The findings also show that you are three hundred percent more likely to have a robbery at your home in Potter if you don't have an alarm system. I do have an alarm system and that was for my own peace of mind.

I have never had a break in living in Potter. OK, unless you want to count that crazy ex who had broken into my home twice. I have the alarm system and moved so not an issue anymore.

I have always felt safe in Potter County and I really hope that continues. Now if I can just get my property taxes lowered and fewer jury summons I will be golden.
