Bigots Are Leaving Disgusting Messages Around Abilene

The LGBTQ+ community is often the center of ridicule and vile comments on social media. Well, it seems they’re now the focus of disgusting humans right here in Abilene.

My friend, April, was leaving work on Monday when she noticed a card on her truck. After examining the card, it appears that bigots had been "spreading their message" throughout the parking lot.

Basically, one side of the card had the definition of the adjective "vile". The other side of the card had a scripture from the bible attempting to vilify homosexuality. It even implied that you'll get AIDS if you're a homosexual.

First off, people like that are disgusting cowards, nothing more, nothing less. I'm not saying Christians are cowards, I'm saying bigots are cowards. Some of them just happen to be Christian.

While I’m not Christian, I am close friends with many Christians that abhor messages like this in the name of their faith.

What happened to "love thy neighbor as thyself" or the one about judging others?

But if we’re going to use scripture to prove a point, let’s visit one about bigotry even though that last sentence did just that.

When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them. The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the LORD your God [Leviticus 19:33-34]

Yeah, that's just a longer version of the "love thy neighbor as thyself" scripture. You'll find that as a common theme all throughout the bible. Heck, the "Golden Rule" is found in writings of most religions.

Christian or not, we can all quote something from that book to justify the way we feel about a certain group of people. Instead, why not use the verses that spread love among all humans?

Let's try this one on for size:

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. [1 Corinthians 13:4-5]

At the end of the day, you can disagree with someone's lifestyle without being a dick about it.

Finally, there’s a high probability that these obviously hateful people, spreading hate, are just nomads and don’t actually live here. However, there’s a chance this hatred was spread by a local. If that’s the case, then I hope to meet that person someday.
