The Buddy Walk is a giant party in Sam Houston Park that includes a 1/2 mile walk around the park. The first Buddy Walk took place in 1995. The first Buddy Walk in Amarillo began in 2002. Now over 20 years later, the party is still going strong.
The 2023 Buddy Walk will be on Saturday, September 30th. This year the Buddy Walk will have a western theme.
- 9 am - Registration
- 10 am - The Walk Begins.
- 1 pm - The fun ends
After the walk get ready for food, music, and fun. Some of the activities include bouncers and slides, face painting, a bungee jumping machine, and a petting zoo provided by the Highland Park ISD FFA. They also just added a mechanical bull to the fun. Not only that, emergency agencies will have some of their equipment on display such as a fire truck, bomb squad equipment, a police cruiser, and ambulances, so the entire family can learn more about our local first responders.
Plus you can silently bid on some amazing items in the event's silent auction.

The Mission of the Panhandle Down Syndrome Guild is:
The Panhandle Down Syndrome Guild was founded in 2002 to promote a greater understanding of the medical and developmental aspects of Down syndrome. Along with the National Down syndrome Society (NDSS), which is the largest non-governmental supporter of research and advocacy, and the National Down syndrome Congress, PDSG strives to improve the lives of those persons in the Panhandle whose lives are affected by Down Syndrome. The Panhandle Down Syndrome Guild increases public awareness about Down syndrome, to assist families in addressing the needs of children born with this genetic condition, and to sponsor community events. We work with the NDSS to dispel the myths associated with Down syndrome, while helping people with Down syndrome achieve their full potential in community life. PDSG develops and disseminated current information materials, as well as, plans activities to increase an acceptance of people with Down syndrome.
