Amarillo’s Cadillac Ranch: An International Traveler’s Bucket List Destination
Amarillo is known for many attractions that draw tourists to the area. Notable highlights include the Big Texan Steak Ranch, famous for its 72-ounce steak challenge, the Giant Legs, and Palo Duro Canyon (which is technically located in Canyon, but most visitors choose to stay in Amarillo). Additionally, the new Bug Ranch is another interesting stop worth mentioning.
Oh but wait, there is one that has been around for decades that make people go "Hmmm"
Cadillac Ranch
An art installation from 1974 attracts an average of two million visitors annually. It's no surprise that it is a popular destination along Route 66.
It is one of the most popular landmarks in Texas. According to a recent poll conducted by Barefoot Yachts Indonesia, Cadillac Ranch was voted the Most Popular Alternative Landmark in Texas by International Travelers.
Cadillac Ranch was #1 in Texas and #25 overall for the most popular landmarks for International travelers.
It's not any wonder, because it isn't every day you can see a bunch of classic Cadillacs buried in the dirt with the backends sticking up in the air. Plus, where else can you go and spray-paint a bunch of Cadillacs buried in the ground?
It has inspired other art projects, including Bug Ranch and Combine Ranch, both of which have buried those items in the ground.
If you have never been to Cadillac Ranch or it's been a while, it's time to grab some spray paint, travel down Route 66 in Amarillo, and have some fun. It's one of those attractions that you visit just to say you've been there.
