The towns of the Texas Panhandle love to celebrate their history and have a big celebration.   The city of Panhandle is getting ready to celebrate their city, history, and museum with their 58th annual Museum Day at the Carson County Square House Museum.

Back in 2019, Governor Greg Abbott established that the 2nd Saturday in September would be Quanah Parker Day.

Quanah Parker was a Comanche warrior who later became a successful rancher and investor.  He was the son of Comanche Chief Peta Nocona and Cynthia Ann Parker.

Celebrating the life of Quanah Parker

Coming up on Saturday, September 16th the Carson County Square Museum is hosting Museum Day to celebrate.  They will also be opening the Quanah Parker Exhibit with a ribbon cutting at 1:30 p.m.

King Hill, donated sculptures that his father Jack Hill created among other artifacts to the museum.  King Hill will also speak at the event about his father's sculptures and ties with Parker.

The museum will also welcome Nancy Parker Boles, great-granddaughter of Quanah Parker.

Admission to the museum will be free during the event.

Not only will the museum be celebrating the new exhibit, but a ton of other fun will be happening on Main Street.  Main Street will be filled with over 50 vendors selling all sorts of items.   Plus at 2 pm after the ribbon cutting the Choir will be performing.

Worried about being hungry?

Don't be, they will be hosting a barbeque fundraiser at the Ag Barn from 11-1 p.m.  The cost of the barbeque is by donation.  Not only that you will have the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets to win some amazing prizes.
