VIRAL VIDEO: A video shared on Facebook appears to show a rat jumping into a deep fryer at a Texas Whataburger.
The Facebook page for that Whataburger restaurant In Bastrop, Texas responded to the video, saying the restaurant was closed and sanitized.

The video, first posted by a Facebook user identified as Brushawn Lewis, records a tiny rat scurrying on prep counter.

"It's a damn rat out in the open!" wrote Lewis in the post. "But it did get deep fried!"

Lewis’ video shows an employee searching for the rat, hidden in between containers next to the fryers as customers watch from in front of the counter. A worker is seen on video appearing to offer refunds to customers at the restaurant.

The rat then leaps into a vat of grease in the deep fryer, while shocked employees try to figure out what to do next.

NCG Enterprises, which owns the Whataburger in Bastrop, shut down, notified pest control and "cleaned and sanitized" the restaurant after the incident, according to a statement sent to news outlets.

"At Whataburger, cleanliness and food safety are top priorities. cleanliness and food safety are top priorities for us,” the statement read.

The statement also said that local health inspectors found no signs of rodents or pests after the incident.
