Experience the Cuisine of Our Early Amarillo Settlers and Cowboys Traveling in the Texas Panhandle
Amarillo was founded in the late 1800s, but long before it became a city, many settlers traveled across the area looking for land, and a new way of life. One of the great features of this area that has been a site to see for millions of years is the area of Palo Duro Canyon outside of Amarillo.
As more people started exploring the old West and places of the plains many people traveled the area. During that era, on most of the settler's travels, there was a chuck wagon, and while cowboys were watching the cattle as they drove them from one location to another, one of the most important things to either was the chuck wagon. The chuck wagon was the wagon that carried the food supplies for those traveling across the plains or the cowboys running cattle.
There was something about chuck wagon cooking. That particular way of cooking has survived the test of time. It was a unique way of cooking over an open fire or even on coals underground. If you have never experienced a chuck wagon meal. Your chance is coming up in October.
