The vintage 1945 four engine B17 Bomber that crashed outside Hartford Connecticut at Bradley International Airport had Mitchell Melton of Dalhart on board. Melton, 34 was the flight engineer according to state authorities.

Shortly after takeoff the vintage plane part of a scheduled airshow radioed an engine problem in engine number four and requested an emergency landing on runway six. The attempted emergency landing did not clear the runway and crashed into a deicing facility at the airport.

Seven people on-board were killed and six others on the plane and ground were injured.

Melton’s injuries were not released by Connecticut authorities.
