Another Major Retailer Goes Dark at Amarillo’s Westgate Mall
It's a sad tale when a retailer that has been around for decades, or even a century, is now closing. Amarillo has taken a hit with several of these stores, and most of them were found inside Westgate Mall.
Westgate Mall’s Growing List of Departures
Not long ago, we shared with you that Francesca's, a staple of Westgate Mall, filed for bankruptcy and was closing all of its stores. They are currently open but in the sell-out phase of their closure.

That doesn't even include the loss of Forever 21. The storefront and sign are still in the building, but when you look through the glass front, all you see is a large space with a few fixtures.

Eddie Bauer Quietly Closes Amarillo Location
Now we find out that Eddie Bauer, a staple in the industry, is closing all of its stores. Yahoo Finance reported that the brand plans to close all of its 200-plus stores in North America as it prepares to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy again. Unfortunately, the store has now closed at Westgate Mall. It was open during the holidays, but today the storefront is dark, the sign is gone, and the space is empty.
The Westgate Mall website says that Eddie Bauer is still there, as does the Google listing, but the empty store says otherwise.
The company is planning to move its online sales, wholesale, design, and product development to Outdoor 5. This portion of the company will not be affected by the bankruptcy.
We did reach out to the management of Westgate Mall to ask what happened to Eddie Bauer and the closing date of Francesca's. We also asked if they could share the plans to fill these empty storefronts, but at the time of publishing, they had yet to respond.
Why National Retailers Are Leaving Malls
Unfortunately, this is the world we live in today. With more and more people shopping online, and not in the actual brick-and-mortar store, it is affecting those businesses that have been around.
What This Means for Amarillo Shoppers
If you do not want to see your favorite stores close in your town, it may mean spending more time and money inside the actual store.
